What is Chlamydia?
Chlamydia is an STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) caused by a bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis. The bacteria causes infection of the urethra, cervix, rectum or throat. There is a chance that the infection will spread to epididymides, uterus or fallopian tubes.
When does a Chlamydia test apply?
Are you sexually active? Then you are advised to have a complete screening for various STDs every 6 months. STDs are not always recognizable, so you may not notice a possible infection, and you can also transfer the STD unintentionally.
Have you recently had an STD? You are then advised to test again after a maximum of 3 months.
This Chlamydia test is for women only. The test can be performed if the following is observed:
- Pain or burning sensation when urinating.
- Increased or abnormal discharge.
- Pain or loss of blood with sexual contact.
- Pain in the lower abdomen.
How does the Chlamydia test work?
